J&D Pierce (Contracts) Ltd is Scotland’s premier steelwork contractor working on some of UK’s most exciting construction projects like Anfield Stadium, the National Innovation Centre, and Queen Street Station, changing the landscape of the UK.
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Construction Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) Advisor to join our team immediately. This pivotal role will be stationed at our Glengarnock, Scarborough or Durham Office with extensive travel across various project sites in the UK. The ideal candidate will foster a proactive health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, conducting audits, and supporting operational teams in HSE matters.
As SHEQ Advisor you will be fully responsible for assisting and developing, where required, all aspects of the SHEQ operations within the Company, and this will include liaising with all relevant personnel when carrying out your specific duties. I have listed below some of the roles in which you will be responsible, although the list is not exhaustive.
- Develop and execute Health and Safety plans in the workplace according to current legislation.
- To provide informed and competent advice, guidance and support on health, safety and welfare matters to all parties.
- To promote a positive SHEQ culture in the business by coaching and supporting behavioral interventions.
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the current legislation.
- To provide detailed health and safety input into all stages of the project process from initial pre-starts to contract completion to ensure that projects are executed in a safe manner.
- To undertake Site Safety Inspections in accordance with the Health and Safety Inspection Plan to ensure that the requirements of the Company’s Safety Management System, Project Health and Safety Plans, current Health and Safety legislation and client requirements are addressed, and compliance achieved. These Site Safety Inspections take place at sites across the UK, overnight stays and travel will form part of the working week.
- Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures through regular inspection of employees, subcontractors, and operational activities.
- Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, produce detailed reports including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support the development of the SHEQ Team of HSE Professionals and QA Advisors alongside the HSE Director / Manager.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 accreditations.
- Prepare weekly Report for Management Meetings (held every Friday).
- Produce site-specific RAMS for planned activities, ensuring they are suitable, sufficient, and effectively communicated. Monitor implementation during site visits to ensure full compliance.
- Review and approve subcontractor RAMS, providing detailed feedback and guidance to ensure documentation accurately reflects the scope of works, associated risks, and required control measures before works commence.
- Valid driver’s license and CSCS card.
- NEBOSH Construction/General, SVQ, NVQ in Health and Safety, IOSH, or Degree in Health and Safety.
- Profound knowledge of health and safety within the construction industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Up-to-date Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Previous experience in structural steel erection.
- Membership of IOSH.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001/ISO 14001/ISO 45001 national standards.
