The three-span, 125-meter-long trapezoidal box girder bridge spans 125 meters and is constructed from weathering-grade steel, featuring haunches at the pier locations.

Testing & Inspection to quantified service fatigue category F56, F71 & F90 in accordance with PD6705-2 2010+a1:2013 Execution Class 3 BSEN1090-2 2018

The bridge forms part of the west coast main line infrastructure, spanning the M6 motorway in the vicinity of Penrith. this project represents the inaugural scheme delivered under network rail’s northwest and central framework for control period 7 (CP7).

J&D Pierce worked in close collaboration with the main contractor to support design development and optimise buildability, contributing to adherence to the project’s compressed programme. this includes completing siteworks in advance to enable follow-on trades to meet the critical rail installation timeline during the restricted RoR possession window the main trapezoidal box girders are being fabricated and assembled at our J&D Pierce Fabrication Strubeam facility at East Kilbride.

The trapezoidal box girders will be delivered to site in modular segments, divided longitudinally along the centerline and transversely at designated site splice locations. Offloading will be carried out using LTM1300-6.2 and LTM1500-8.1 mobile cranes. The segments will be positioned on a trestle system at an elevated height to facilitate subsequent SPMT access for final bridge installation. On-site, the girders will be reassembled longitudinally into full modules, followed by transverse joining to complete the full bridge span. All splice joints will be fully encapsulated, welded, NDT tested, and cleaned over a 3-month period.
