Caldew bridge is a 3 span viaduct that crosses both the railway and River Caldew, forming part of the Carlisle Southern Link Road project.

The Caldew Bridge consists of 18 beams, most of which range from 55 to 65 metres in length, stand 5 metres tall, and each weigh over 70Te. These beams were fabricated from structural steel plate, varying in thickness from 30 to 55 millimetres. The project posed significant challenges due to the bridge crossing not only the River Caldew but also an active railway line. As a result, construction work over the railway had to be carried out at night during scheduled line isolations. Bridge spans were preassembled in a designated assembly area, where they were constructed into transportable sections. These sections were then moved to the installation site using Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). For lifting operations, we utilised a Liebherr LR11350, one of the largest crawler cranes in the UK, with a lifting capacity of 1,350Te. at a 12-metre radius. Once completed, the bridge will span over 170 metres in length and stand 20 metres above the river.
