The National Innovation Centre, also known as the Catalyst is a grade A, 6-storey office building within Newcastle’s Helix site.

This project stands out with its unique diagrid structure, featuring ‘Y’ frames columns gradually rotated throughout the height of the building, creating a 7.5° taper from top to bottom. A substantial temporary works package was adopted to overcome the challenges of the erection of this distinctive structure, along with the city centre construction. Utilising cellular beams for clear span office spaces, the project’s fabrication and erection were executed efficiently, taking a mere 11 weeks.
